Hi everybody-cannot believe that another month has passed!

New members

This month we have seen a great number of new ML teachers making their way into the community- propably due to the IEB conference? I also see that quite a few of you have made the trouble to invite fellow ML teachers- thank you for that! It is quite easy to do, just click on the Invite tab at the top of the community and insert your collegues’ e-mail addresses in there, and click Send!

So a warm ML welcome to: Aletta Pretorius (Dr Nelson R. Mandela High School) Ramesh Manilal (Sparks Estate Secondary School) Reena (Bonela Secondary School) Miranda (Elsies River High School) Eugene Frantz (Princeton High School) Mac Dayla (Surefoot International school) Shumi (CPUT) Marisa Venter (Parow High School) Janet Hyde (Port Alfred High School) Theresa Dendrinos (Edenvale High School) Michelle (St Catherine’s High School Germiston) Rukaya Conrad (Groenvlei High school) Rudrich Claassen (Rondebosch Boys High School) Marion Carelse (Floors High School) Ludwe (CPUT) Richard Lennox (Beaulieu College) Vernita Rixon (Durban Girls’ College) Selala Sekotola Hendrick (Rebone Secondary School) Ronell (Hoërskool Hexvallei) Siyabonga Dzingwa (Michael House) Marcia Moerman (Bridgehouse College) Lisa Hardie (Michael House) Alison Kitto (Pretoria High School for Girls) Mark Carolissen (Khanya) William Jacobs (Khanya) Sue Shaw (retired teacher) Glen Gibbon (Bishops) Danie Van Schalkwyk (Felixton College) Nicola Guise (Kingsmead) Gary Kenyon (Beaulieu College) Mellony Graven (SACS) and Javas (Cedarville Public School)

All community members are all part of our Feedblitz newsletter system (I automatically add newcomers to it), so you should get a weekly e-mail newsletter of all newly tagged resources (in and outside of our community). If you are not a member but would like to get the newsletter, subscribe here: http://www.feedblitz.com/f/?Sub=524591.  All these resources will be filed under “weekly bookmarks” here: http://en.wordpress.com/tag/weekly-resource-bookmarks/. Otherwise, just click on the Resources Tab at the top once you are in the network at www.mathsliteracy.co.za where you will see a cloud tag (Just click on the tag/word that you want resources on).

This month we have been a bit low on actual uploaded material but there are quite a few links to good online material which can be used in the maths lit classroom! Thank you for uploading/sharing the following:

We would like to make March a resource sharing month and am asking all of you to

I also need help to upload/tag  all our old resources (from the old FTP site) to our community. If you have an hour to spare (don’t laugh) to help me, please let me know (maggie@maggie.co.za )

We will be having an online informal meeting next week Thursday(12/3/09)  at 16h00 in our community. Just sign into the community and you will see a chat widget at the bottom right of your screen. Just click on the “Up” arrow to chat. New members are especially welcome to join us for a “virtual cup of tea” and some light banter about Maths literacy and how we are coping.

If you have any other Maths lit events, please feel free to add them to the community (just click on the Events tab >>Add event) or add it as a discussion.

Lighter moment…

Christel shared with us one of the lighter moments in her class. See her blog entry: http://mathsliteracy.ning.com/profiles/blogs/those-cute-answers

What is new?

That is all for this month from me, and I hope that you will be having lots of fun teaching this great relevant subject!
